One can find fiction published in Singapore that contain beautiful gems in prose marred by sprinklings of arkward sentences and phrases. This suggests that we do not have sufficient editing resources in Singapore. The writer is heady with the excitement of his world of imagination. He transfers his visions into beautiful prose. Too much description and his readers' minds begin to wander. Too little, and his readers fail to connect with his vision. Swarmed by his visions, it is difficult for the writer to decide how much is too much and how little is too little. That is where a good editor comes in useful. But if there is insufficient editing resources amongst publishers in Singapore, writers may have to band together to help edit each others' work. Do you agree?
